The people finally ask...what is "the public option"?

I just read an article stating that internet searches for the "public option" have substantially increased since this weekend when news reports stated the White House does not necessarily require a public option for successful health care reform. With so many people only now taking the time to learn exactly what the public option would entail, I wonder how many of the individuals who disrupted town hall meetings actually read any version of the proposed legislation.
